Chelsea Captain Gary Cahill Close To Signing With Premier League Club

Gary Cahill has moved one step closer to ending his time at Chelsea after being linked with a move to a Premier League club.

The 33-year-old England international is out of contract in the summer and has struggled to re-establish himself under Blues boss Maurizio Sarri.

According to the Evening Standard, Fulham are ready to sign the experienced centre-back in their bid to avoid relegation.

Cahill signed from Bolton in 2012 for £7m and has made 190 appearances for Chelsea.

Back in November, the 59-year-old former Napoli boss appointed the former Aston Villa player as his captain.

“The captain is Cahill, and, if he’s not on the pitch, it’s [Cesar] Azpilicueta,” Sarri explained (via Sky Sports).

“Cahill was the captain last season and I have spoken with his mates, and everybody told me that he was really a very good captain.”

Sarri also added that he was unsure if Cahill would leave the club in January.

“It depends on him,” he said.

“I think he played very often in the last seven, eight matches. It depends on him and the club.

“For me, Cahill is very important on the pitch, but also off the pitch.”

Cahill is not the only Chelsea player getting ready to leave in January, as it has been reported that Cesc Fàbregas could sign for a new club by ‘next week.’

Chelsea have entered the January window early and signed Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund for £58m (€64m).

However, the 20-year-old USA international has been loaned back to the club until the end of the season.

Should Chelsea have signed Cahill to a new deal?
