Mesut Özil might not have left Arsenal at the moment, but the Gunners have already identified his replacement and are preparing to move for him in January.
The 30-year-old midfielder’s future at the club remains uncertain, with both Juventus and Inter Milan interested in signing him.
According to the Daily Mail, Gunners boss Unai Emery is preparing to move for James Rodríguez.
The 27-year-old Colombia international is on loan at Bayern Munich from Real Madrid, but the London club could be able to snap him up for only £3m.
The reigning Bundesliga champions signed him on a two-year loan deal, with the option to make the signing permanent for £39.5m.
Considering that Rodríguez has only six months left on his loan deal, it would mean that the Gunners would only have to pay the final £3m left to Madrid.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Barcelona’s Denis Suárez, but the former Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain manager has said that the club can only afford to make loan signings in January.
“I don’t know now his [Suárez’s] situation, but we can only sign on a loan,” he said.
“We cannot sign permanently. We can only loan players.”
Should Arsenal make a move for Rodríguez?
