Marek Hamsik gifted his final Napoli jersey to Paolo Cannavaro, as they’ll be reunited in China when the midfielder signs for Dalian Yifang.
It really does seem as if Marekiaro has played his 520th and final match, an all-time club record, when he was substituted in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Sampdoria.
That special last shirt has a new home, as confirmed by his ex-teammate Paolo Cannavaro on Instagram.
Hamsik signed it: ‘To my captain Paolo, with respect and affection.’
Cannavaro is already in China, working as assistant manager to brother Fabio at Guangzhou Evergrande.
“Here it is,” wrote Cannavaro. “Unfortunately the day that no Napoli fan ever wanted to see has now come!!!! Sadly, in life everything has a beginning and an end.
“In this arc, you have achieved something exceptional. At the end of the day, players mark eras that are at times forgotten many, many years later.
“I am sure of one thing, that the name MAREK HAMSIK will echo in eternity through the streets of our city.
“Thank you for giving me such strong emotions and your last jersey worn with such love.”
