Chicago Cops Examine Phone Records, Bleach Bottle In ‘Empire’ Incident – WBBM NewsRadio

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago Police say “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett has now turned over his phone records from the early morning hours of the reported attack two weeks ago.

Police Spokesman Tom Ahern said Monday: “Chicago police received limited and redacted phone records from the victim.”

Ahern added: “These records will be analyzed by detectives and we will be in contact with the victim should additional information be needed.”

Smollett, 35, told police a rope was placed around his neck and that bleach was poured on him in the lower street levels in Streeterville.

Police said staff members of the New York Post found a bottle on the scene, but a police spokesman notes “it’s unclear if that is related to the incident as it was not discovered during any of the earlier canvasses.”

Police say they took the bottle for analysis.

Smollett told authorities he was on the phone with his manager when he was attacked. Both men reportedly said masked attackers yelled anti-gay and racist words and something about “MAGA country.”

Smollett is back in Chicago to work on the show.
