SPAL Coach Leonardo Semplici wasn’t too upset at the draw with Genoa, but hinted his future isn’t decided. “If we have the same ideas, we’ll continue.”
Speaking at the post-match Press conference after a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Paolo Mazza the technician admitted he was happy with his team’s season so far.
“We didn’t do as well as in previous matches, but we played a Genoa side that wanted the three points.
“A victory today would have ensured our safety mathematically, but we’re happy to be where we are in the table.
“We have grown, the lads played to the best of their abilities today.”
Top goal scorer Andrea Petagna went straight into the dressing room after he was substituted and Semplici joked that he was rushing to get the train to join up with Italy CT Roberto Mancini’s get-together at Coverciano tomorrow.
The technician was then asked about his future and did not rule out a possible exit.
“I am focused on our goal of staying up, after that, I have another year left on my contract and I am very grateful to this club for giving me a chance.
“We have made an extraordinary journey together. I will sit down and talk with the club, if we have the same ideas, then we will continue on together.”
Semplici joined the Ferrara based club in 2014 and has overseen the climb up through the divisions to establish themselves firmly in the top-flight.
“After so many years together, the club could be looking for something different. The squad will have to be improved if we want to compete on a higher level and I also have the desire to improve. Whoever does this job must be ambitious, always aim high and dream.
“I know I didn’t have the best footballing career, but as a Coach, I earned everything with my work on the field.”
