Sebastián Abreu Is The Guinness World Record Holder For Most Professional Clubs Played For

Meet Sebastián ‘El Loco’ Abreu, the 42-year-old striker who broke a Guinness World Record for the most professional clubs played for after he signed a deal with the 26th team in his career.

And he’s played for two clubs since that record was broken.

The 41-year-old overtook German goalkeeper Lutz Pfannestiel’s previous record after spells in Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Ecuador, Israel, Brazil, Paraguay, Chile and his native Uruguay.

To break the record, Abreu signed a deal with Chilean Primera División side Audax Italiano after scoring 11 goals in 13 appearances for Primera B de Chile outfit Deportes Puerto Montt in 2017.

He later went on to play for Chilean Primera B side Deportes Magallanes and Brazilian second division side Rio Blanco, a team he failed to make an appearance for.

Here he is signing for the Brazilian club, aged 42.

Abreu has scored an impressive 346 goals throughout his career and according to his Wikipedia page, the 42-year-old has made a total of 686 appearances for all his clubs and country, including 70 caps for Uruguay,

One thing is for sure, the veteran forward will be appearing in pub quizzes across the globe, so here’s his senior career summed up in an extract from Wikipedia.

It has been an incredible 24 years for the Uruguayan forward.

But it now looks like Abreu has finished his playing career, although he may still get some minutes on the pitch with Salvadorian club Santa Tecla after taking over as caretaker manager earlier this month.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he played himself, to be honest.

The definition of journeyman.
