Mauricio Pochettino Is Ready To Smash Spurs’ Club-Record Fee On First Summer Signing

Mauricio Pochettino is ready to smash Tottenham Hotspur’s club-record fee in the hopes of signing Tanguy Ndombélé.

According to Sky Sport Italia (via Sky Sports), Spurs have opened talks with Lyon over the French midfielder.

And while discussions are only in the early stages, the Champions League runners-up believe they can make an offer that the French side cannot turn down.

Spurs are ready to splash out at least £60m on the France international, eclipsing the £36m spent on signing Davinson Sánchez from Ajax in 2017.

Ndombélé, who has been linked with Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus, has been on Spurs’ radar since last season.

And Pochettino is keen to add some depth to his squad and believes the Lyon star would be the right replacement for Mousa Dembélé, who signed for Chinese Super League outfit Guangzhou R&F in January.

Ndombélé made 49 appearances across all competitions last season as he helped Lyon finish third in Ligue 1.

Lyon have a strong hand in the negotiations over the highly rated Frenchman, especially as his contract doesn’t expire until 2023.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas said last month that he would prefer Ndombélé to remain in France, even if it meant signing for rivals Paris Saint-Germain.

“If PSG agrees to align with the two or three proposals we have, and that Tanguy, who will ultimately choose his destination, agrees, obviously it would be nice if he goes to PSG,” he told Sport France.

“I think that talented French players must be in French clubs.

“The PSG is the one with the most resources. It is the one who can make alternative proposals to the biggest European clubs.”

While there are plenty of destinations for him to head to this summer, the Lyon man said he was unsure about where his future would take him.

“As I told my agents and the club, I’m not fixed yet, I have not made a decision,” he told Le Progrès.

Which club should Ndombélé sign for in the transfer window?
