Federico Chiesa praised Italy for putting in a ‘great’ performance against Spain and ‘showing that we never give up’.
Chiesa was Italy’s hero at the Dall’Ara, his brace ensuring they got their European Under-21 Championship campaign off to a strong start.
“It was a great Italy performance,” the winger told Rai Sport after his country’s 3-1 win.
“We suffered for the first 20 minutes, Spain proved to be technically strong. But we showed that we never give up.
“Now we’ll think about the next game, which is even more important. We’re good together, we’ve come up together and some of us have also had the opportunity to play for the seniors.
“For us it’s an honour to play with the older heads, but when we come here we must give everything.
“I dedicate these goals to my family, my girlfriend and all the people who have always been with me.”
Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso has made no secret of his desire to keep the 21-year-old…
“What a game tonight, magnificent performance from the Azzurrini, a truly great feeling and a truly great Federico Chiesa, what joy!” he told his club’s Twitter account.
