Joining the star for the annual film festival was her director husband Bart Freundlich, 49, who donned a dapper black suit and shades as he walked the red carpet with his wife.

The couple, who met on the set of The Myth of Fingerprints back in 1996, married in 2003 and share children Caleb, 21, and Liv, 16.

Julianne’s award comes after she discussed the issue of pay disparity in the entertainment industry and admitted that there was still a ‘hierarchy’ involved in mainstream movies.

‘So if there are people who have bigger parts and are bigger stars they’ll be paid more.

‘But I think the question everyone is asking is, well even if it is hierarchical, and you have actors of equal stature and equal parts, then they should be paid the same. But obviously it’s very challenging.’

Julianne is also set to release her latest film After The Wedding, which is an adaptation of Susanne Bier’s Oscar-nominated 2006 film, later this year.
