Ice and MDMA worth $600,000 is found hidden in garden lamps sent from Germany – as two people are arrested over

Two men have been arrested after a package of garden lamps sent to Australia from Germany was found to include more than $600,000 worth of MDMA and ice. 

The men, aged 22 and 32, were arrested outside an apartment on Sussex Street, Sydney, about 6pm on Wednesday – one week after the drugs were located by police.

Australian Border Forced found the package containing 5.5 kilograms MDMA and 500 grams of ice – with an estimated street value of more than $600,000 – on Wednesday August 7.

The men, aged 22 and 32, were arrested outside an apartment on Sussex Street, Sydney, just before 6pm on Wednesday

Sydney City Police Area Command began to investigate the alleged importation through Strike Force Dobem and arrested the two men following inquiries.

A search warrant was executed at the apartment and police found air cargo packaging, mobile phones, and documentation.

The two men were taken to Day Street Police Station in Sydney’s CBD.

The 22-year-old man was later released amidst further inquiries.

The 32-year-old man was charged with possess commercial quantity unlawful import: border-controlled drug and attempted possess marketable quantity unlawful import border control drug.

He has been refused bail to appear at Central Local Court on Thursday.  

Police said investigations are ongoing.
