‘That’s what’s up, girl!’ US pop star Lizzo praises Brooke Boney for being Aboriginal – as the pair discuss body positivity on The Today Show

US pop star Lizzo has praised Brooke Boney for being Aboriginal as the pair discussed body positivity.

On Wednesday morning, the entertainment reporter interviewed Lizzo on the Today Show ahead of her appearance at the FOMO Festival in January.

The pair were discussing body positivity, a social movement about being inclusive of different body shapes, when Brooke mentioned her First Nations heritage.

‘As an Aboriginal women in Australia,’ Brooke said before she was cut off by Lizzo. 

‘Are you Aboriginal?’ the rapper asked, to which the reporter replied: ‘Yes. Yep.’  

‘That’s what’s up, girl!’ Lizzo excitedly responded, sending Brooke into giggles.

The entertainment reporter continued her question: ‘As an Aboriginal woman in Australia I sometimes feel like so much of our existence is political. But you really lean in to positivity.’

‘Start with just realising how much we’ve learned to self hate. It’s micro, it’s not a big deal,’ Lizzo said of body positivity 

Lizzo went on to explain that body positivity is a gradual process to become comfortable in one’s own skin.

‘Step back from yourself and just appreciate who you are.

The American rapper and singer recently reached one billion song streams, thanks to the positive messages of her songs which resonate with many young women.

Brooke is certainly someone who is comfortable in her own body, often posting pictures that show off her ample assets, which she calls ‘thirst traps’. 

After the Instagram like ban, the entertainment reporter announced it would not deter her from flaunting her body. 

Brooke hilariously wrote in the caption: ‘#fbf [flashback friday] hard to continue my thirst trapping ways when you can’t see likes but I will not be disheartened.

‘I will continue to fight the good fight. Pls comment “like” to show your support for my good cause.’
