John van’t Schip accepts Greece are a team in transition but still wants to see them “face a great team with the right spirit” against Italy tomorrow.
Grecce will miss out on Euro 2020 after a dismal qualifying campaign, which has seen them pick up just five points so far.
“I want to see that we can face a great team with the right spirit, while playing differently from the past,” Van’t Schip said at a Press conference.
“I also want my players to help each other so we can put our game plan into practice. Tomorrow will be an important experience.
“Mancini’s done a great job, he’s been the author of the Italian renaissance in a short period of time.
“We’ve had problems, so we’ll have to restructure the national team and target the next World Cup. In these games we’ll have to try to gain experience.”
Napoli defender Kostas Manolas will not be making the trip to the Olimpico, the place he still called home three months ago…
“I’ve told the four players that I left out the reasons for their exclusions,” added the CT.
“I have four games to see as many players as possible. The things that didn’t work before weren’t just about defence.
“My duty is to turn a new leaf. I wasn’t afraid of taking over a national team in difficulty.”
