Frenkie De Jong's Transfer Fee Rise From 2015 Is Nothing Short Of Incredible

Frenkie De Jong’s transfer fee rise in just four years has been utterly incredible.

The Ajax sensation will be joining Barcelona from 1st July 2019, after signing a contract for the next five seasons, through to 2023/24.

De Jong had been attracting plenty of interest with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, but Barcelona were his first choice and he will now be playing in the Blaugrana colours for next season following his reported £65 million switch.

As we know full well, Ajax are masters in developing players and selling them for profit but the money they have made on De Jong is next level, considering they bought him for just €1 as well as some players on loan to Willem II in 2015.

Willem II, who are ninth in the Eredivisie, also had Virgil van Dijk in their youth academy many moons ago and so have played a key part in the development of the two most expensive Dutch players in history.

They had a ten per cent sell-on clause inserted as part of De Jong’s move to Ajax, meaning they’ve pocketed a tidy sum from his big-money move to Barca.

RKC Waalwijk were also entitled to some of the transfer fee, which they are using to fund a natural grass pitch in their stadium.

De Jong, who will become the 20th Dutch player to play for Barcelona, has expressed his excitement over the chance of playing alongside the one and only Lionel Messi.

“‘For me that will be very special,” De Jong said, as per Metro.

“Everyone knows that I think he’s the best. But it has not been a decisive factor. I also do not have to look at him as a kind of tourist. I’ll just be his teammate later.”
