Giampaolo: 'I could leave Sampdoria'

Marco Giampaolo warned he will leave Sampdoria “if we don’t do enough to make a step forward in quality” next season, as Milan and Roma are interested.

The Blucerchiati are heading for a comfortable mid-table finish after their 3-3 draw at Parma.

“I have been clear with the club, I am not happy with just a season of mediocrity,” Giampaolo told Sky Sport Italia.

“For the good of everyone involved, I’ve told the club that if we don’t do enough to make a step forward in quality, there’s no point me staying at Sampdoria.

“A season of anonymity is not good for me or Sampdoria. I’ve been very honest with everyone.”

Samp have been criticised by their own fans for selling all their most important players and it seems to have frustrated Giampaolo too.

“We’ve sold some important players and the scouts found good alternatives, but now we have to progress, otherwise why am I still here?

“I don’t have any other offers lined up, it’s a matter of principle. I’d rather stay home for a year twiddling my thumbs.”
