Nikola Maksimovic insists “it always goes like that with Juventus, we dominate and lose because of some error or a set play. Even Alex Meret isn’t sure if he touched Cristiano Ronaldo.”
The 2-1 result was sealed by a Miralem Pjanic free kick and Emre Can header on a corner, as after Jose Callejon tapped in, Lorenzo Insigne fired his penalty on to the upright.
The biggest complaints were at the Meret red card just 25 minutes in, but Maksimovic had an interesting take on it.
“There was our error on the Kevin Malcuit back-pass. We asked the referee, who told us Meret had made contact with Cristiano Ronaldo. In that case, there’s no issue, it was a red card,” the defender told Rai Sport and Radio Kiss Kiss.
“Even Meret wasn’t sure if he made contact or not.”
After Pjanic was also sent off, Napoli dominated the second half, but were unable to turn the situation around.
“It always goes like that with Juventus. Napoli play good football, attack, dominate, but at the end of the day we always concede a goal and lose because of some error or a set play.
“We must learn from Juve on how to make the most from corners, free kicks and other dead ball situations. You can’t see the 16-point difference when we play each other, but they still win games that we don’t.
“The Scudetto race is over, we won’t think about it anymore. Now we’ll focus on the Europa League, which is the only remaining objective. We’ve got to play on Thursday with the same determination.”
