Rangers Beat Celtic In Old Firm Derby At Ibrox

Steven Gerrard has his first victory in the Old Firm derby thanks to a 1-0 win over his former boss Brendan Rodgers at Ibrox.

The Gers were far superior throughout on home turf, with the winning goal coming home on the half hour mark courtesy of midfielder Ryan Jack’s first goal from the club.

On loan Liverpool winger Ryan Kent embarrassed Mikael Lustig down the left flank and cut the ball back to Jack, who saw his side-footed finish deflect through Scott Brown’s legs and wrong-foot Craig Gordon.

In all truth Rangers’ win should have been much more comfortable given their dominance and the number of clear-cut chances they created but having come out second best in recent fixtures against their arch-rivals, they won’t be complaining one bit.

The win moves Rangers level on points with Celtic at the top of the table, only behind the Parkhead club on goal difference – though the champions have played a game less.

Going into today Rodgers had never lost any of his twelve Old Firm derbies but of course it had to be Gerrard, his captain at Liverpool, who ended his unbeaten record in the thirteenth game with a thoroughly deservedly win.
