Gerard Pique is definitely in the mix for the best defenders in world football at the moment but Robert Fernandez has a pretty crazy high opinion of the Barcelona defender.
The former Barca director has been talking about the former Manchester United man after he put in two assured defensive displays to keep out Real Madrid in two El Clasico victories in a week at the Bernabeu.
And he’s not only gone as far as saying Pique is the best in the business, he also reckons he’s the greatest defender ever.
“Piqué is the best centre back in the world. Now just now, but of all time,” the former Barca midfielder said, as per Sport.
Pique has had incredible success at both club and international level, with a total of 27 major honours with Barca along with World Cup and European Championship victories for Spain.
He’s also made the FIFPro World XI on four occasions and will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the best centre-backs when he does retire from the game.
But Fernandez is definitely being biased in his comments regarding the 32-year old being the G.O.A.T.
Meanwhile, Pique is already thinking about life after football as in January he acquired FC Andorra – his company Kosmos taking full responsibility of the club’s debt after executives sanctioned the move at a board meeting.
He then managed to make a huge statement by securing both Lionel Messi and Cesc Fabregas as shareholders just a week on from his takeover.
FC Andorra ply their trade in the fifth tier of Spanish football and are managed by ex-Blaugrana players Gabri Garcia and Albert Jorquera. They also boast Adria Vilanova, who’s the son of the late Tito Vilanova.
