Van Dijk Reacted Like A True Liverpool Captain After Sokratis Confronted Mo Salah

Virgil van Dijk has proved to be one of the most important signings in Liverpool’s long and successful history.

I understand the above might be a bold statement, but the difference he’s made in such a short amount of time is quite remarkable, and that’s just not because of his ability on the pitch.

Van Dijk brings so many captain-like qualities to the table and one of those is the ability to stand up for his teammates.

Just like he did when Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos gave teammate Mohamed Salah a hard time after the half-time whistle.

The defender stood up to Sokratis as they approached the tunnel.

You can only presume they were talking about the penalty incident, in which Salah won because of a foul by the Greek defender.

But Van Dijk was having none of it and squared up to the Arsenal player as Salah watched on from behind.

Liverpool went on to win the match 5-1 thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, with Jurgen Klopp’s side going nine points clear of Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League title race, and an incredible 10 points clear of Manchester City.

That being said, one of the biggest talking points in this tie was Van Dijk’s chat with Sokratis and Liverpool fans loved it.

Here’s some reaction from social media:

Does Virgil van Dijk deserve to keep the captain’s armband for the foreseeable future?
